Create Curve Widening

Used to automatically create and apply horizontal controls to widen lane and/or edge of pavement lines around curves, moving them further away from the centerline at each curve of the controlling alignment.

You can access this tool from the following:

  • Ribbon: Corridors > Edit > Edits split button

Curve widening is used to automatically create and apply horizontal controls to widen lane and/or edge of pavement lines around curves, moving them further away from the centerline at each curve of the controlling alignment. The tool is used in conjunction with an ASCII file (*.wid) which contains parameters for widening.

Widening Table File Format

The widening table is an ASCII format which the user will point to when utilizing the curve widening tool. Therefore the file can be stored in a central server location and utilized by the enterprise. While there may be several widening tables, only one is used for each processing. If the design speed on a corridor varies, necessitating different tables, then multiple uses are of the tool are needed.

Where:

Rad = Radius

Wi = Widening inside of curve

Li = Length of transition inside of curve

Wo = Widening outside of curve

Lo = Length of transition outside of curve

When building the table, any lines that begin with a ; or * are ignored. Radius values need to be in order from smallest to largest, and there should be a 0 value so that all cases are handled.
